"Strengthening the role of women scientists in nano-science"

WomenInNano

Satellite Meeting

to be held during the
International Symposium on Metastable and Nano Materials
27th - 31st August 2006, Warsaw, Poland

Tuesday, August 29, 2006
Hall 134, 13.15 - 14.45

The Specific Support Action WomenInNano, which is funded through the 6th Framework Programme of the European Commission, started in October 2005. Project partners from 9 European countries - Germany, Romania, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, UK, Bulgaria, Italy and France - are involved under the coordination of the IFW Dresden, Germany.

The project has a duration of 30 months and represents a pilot initiative of networking high-level female scientists experienced in nano-science, who will act as 'Ambassadors for Women and Science'. The aims of the project are:

a) to encourage young women to consider studies and pursue careers in this new scientific field (providing 'role models'),
b) to attract youth to 'NANO',
c) to network and empower women scientists working in nano-science at European level,
d) to stimulate female scientists to participate in EC programmes,
e) to mobilize stakeholders in favour of gender equality in scientific research,
f) to stimulate the science-society dialog.

More information can be found on the WomanInNano-website: http://www.womeninnano.de/

At the Satellite Meeting, which will be held during the International Symposium on Metastable and Nano Materials, ISMANAM 2006, 27th - 31st August 2006 in Warsaw, Poland, detailed information on the project partners and their objectives and on ongoing and planned project activities and events will be given. Possibilities for an active involvement of interested students, Ph.D. students and experienced scientists in the project activities will be presented.

Participants of the ISMANAM 2006 conference with interest in WomenInNano are kindly invited to join this meeting !

The participation is free of charge!
